"Burning coconut shells for charcoal leads to air pollution", farmers association seeks action

Coimbatore: Many industries near Oraathu Kuppai village in Madukarai circle, Chettipalayam Panchayat burn coconut shells to obtain charcoal. These industries contribute to the air pollution in the area, thus affecting the lives of residents there.


Coimbatore: Many industries near Oraathu Kuppai village in Madukarai circle, Chettipalayam Panchayat burn coconut shells to obtain charcoal. These industries contribute to the air pollution in the area, thus affecting the lives of residents there. 

Protesting against the blatant disregard for residents in the locality, the Farmers Association brought a garland made of coconut shells to the Collector's Office today and filed a petition. Palanisamy, the President of the Farmers Association requested authorities to inspect companies that burn coconut shells for obtaining charcoal which reportedly causes health hazards for residents in the area. 

Coconut Shell Charcoal is widely used as an efficient industrial fuel, while also being used in laundries. Apart from being manufactured as an industrial fuel, Coconut Shell Charcoal is also best known to be use as cooking fuel, due to its pleasant smell. Coconut Shell Charcoal is also used for purification purposes.
